“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”
-Dalai lama
What this means to me is that in order for beauty and kindness to occurs around us, it must occur within us and then it will spread. This project I am starting, called Helping Hands Through Violin, has two meanings. The first meaning is to help hands -personal, identifying tools of people- to be able to play the violin. The second meaning is to create helping hands -people who offer help and support to others- in the Tucson community.
Through violin, and music as a whole, comes expression of the most personal sentiments by affecting deep within oneself in a way that nothing else can. When learning music, one also learns valuable skills such as communication, expression, physical coordination, analysis, critical thinking, memorization, organization, concept association, and it even helps people overcome fears.
Helping Hands Through Violin seeks to create a positive violin studio that gives students unique opportunities in learning, teaching, and performing. My private violin studio will feature:
small group classes for younger or beginning students
discounted or free lessons for students who volunteer their time to the community
discounted or free violin lessons for students who in return will teach a student for free
lessons for student teachers on how to teach violin
Each week I will post to my blog the progress my project is undergoing. For my first week I will be creating a flyer as well as a list of contacts to send it to electronically and physically. Click here for week 1's post. I am excited to begin and I hope you enjoy following me through my journey.
